Portfolio

As with previous iterations of my portfolio website, this version became an experiment – this time – with HTML5, CSS3, and the challenges of coping with cross-browser compatibility issues.	The following is a brief list of patches to the Drupal 6 and 7 core that I helped produce. Most of the patches implement changes made from Drupal 6 to 7, while others are minor edits to documentation or UI text.	Temple of Doom is an incomplete game prototype for the Game Prototype Challenge, Version 4 (GPCv4).	The City Budget Navigator was a project proposed as part of Toronto’s participation in both the International Open Data Hackathon and the Random Hacks of Kindness 2.0 (RHoK), both of which occurred simultaneously on December 4 and 5, 2010.
Dreamcatcher is a game prototype for the Game Prototype Challenge (GPC). The GPC is a monthly, week-long, open challenge announced mainly through Twitter to developers to create a game prototype around two keywords or themes.¹ The GPCv1 themes were dreams and collectibles.	In brief, “tagin! is an open source, location tagging engine that may be used to create indoor location-based services (LBS) and applications. Developers can use tagin! to manage points of interest (POI) and digital signs making them available to their applications on WiFi- and Bluetooth-capable devices”.¹	The image mosaic generator was the upper year thesis project for Engineering Science at the University of Toronto, supervised by Prof. Karan Singh of the Department of Computer Science. A image mosaic is a mosaic or patchwork of images that resemble a single image when seen from afar. The thesis work involved examining analytic techniques for constructing image mosaics and building a proof-of-concept generator to live-test the various algorithms that came out of the initial research.	James Bradford asked for my assistance in completing his photography portfolio website. The working relationship was straight-forward and brief. He approached with the site mockup, content, and organization all prepared and wanted a developer to build the site. The site went live within a couple days of work.
Citizen Engineer is a engineering student group at the University of Toronto. The goal is “to encourage and educate students, enabling them to help others to work towards effective and efficient public policy”. ¹	Ralph Thornton Centre is a local community centre in the South Riverdale community of Toronto with which I’ve been volunteering since about 2001 in varying capacities, mostly recently as a board member since 2006.	The Recochem “Renew Your Home for Spring” Contest is a micro-site (single page) that I developed based on mock-ups as a subcontractor for a web development firm that was experience work overflow. Despite being a micro-site, I successfully made a case for using the Drupal platform as the Drupal webform module (or form API) is far easier to manage, tends to be more secure than hand-written forms and form processing code, and presents an easy way to manage form submissions.
